Went on the Golden Circle tour, it was very cool. Luckily it was a light snow day, so we were able to see the sites. I have now been to þingvaller (think thats the spelling) site of the Allthing. Aw yeah!
Have seen the crevace that is the American and European continental plates (moving apart at a rate of an inch a year) Have seen snowed over volcano craters, partially frozen waterfalls, glasshouses (all fruit and veg here is grown in geothermally heated glasshouses) and part of a geothermal power sink. The power sink thing was really awesome in an ´how powerful is the earth and how small am i´ way. It was an igloo shaped steel structure sat over a pipeline that is sunk into the side of an active volcano, sulpherous steam was spewing out of it and the ground was rumbling. eep! The majority of houses are powered by geothermal power.
I have been visiting the hot springs pool just down the road from the hostel. You have to run (over icy ground) in your swimmers through minus temperature air to the jacuzzi, they range from 38 degrees to 44 depending on your taste.
Reykjavic also has many cool vintage clothing stores, havent bought anything yet as am still trying to come to terms with just how expensive everything is (translating it back into british pounds is bad enough, but then remembering just how far behind the Aussie dollar is in the whole scheme of things gives me heart palpitations - as in, oh my god, i just paid $9AU for a cup of instant coffee.....ahhh!) Have also seen some local designer stores that have dresses in the window that look like they are straight out of BjÖrk´s wardrobe (probably are...)
Tomorrow night we are off to a concert at the local uni, all unsigned icelandic bands, should be good.
Also, not much time left, have seen the 12th century copies of some of the sagas. It was a definate high point. You could see the notes in the margins that the scribes had made (fair enough it was in icelandic, so no idea what they were noting down, but exiting none the less.)
Ok time up now.
Bye.
