How I stopped worrying and learned to love the group project.

Okay, I'm exaggerating. I'll never stop worrying, no matter how many times I resolve it. And the group project? I have a grudging acceptance of same. Here we have many of the hand-knit "squares" that are soon to become a hand-knit baby blanket for one of my colleagues:

As you can see, one of these squares is not only longer than it is wide (or wider than it is long, though this time, most of them have come closer to the former, which is easier to cope with), but it also has an extra feature: the jog where it becomes wider than it was wide. Yes. Well, last time we group-knitted a project, I reknit fewer squares than the first time. I also sewed a backing on it and tied it down, quilt-tying style, which was necessary because of the highly developed state of denial in which we live that leads knitters to believe that it's totally 6" wide and 6" long. Just don't pull it like that. Well, she said to err on the side of slightly small, right? You do just fold under the edges to make a seam, don't you? Sigh. But it turned out very sweet.

I'm sure this one will turn out beautifully as well. The booties to match? Made with yarn purchased in Chicagoland this summer? Well, let's just say that the yarn is living up to my expectations. The pattern, not so much. I'll show ya later. Did I mention that we bought a new camera for Christmas? Yep. I've been snapping lots of shots and bought Photoshop Elements so I can regale you all with good photos from everywhere about town, instead of relying on my crappy camera phone or waiting until I can sneak shots at my cubicle or in the third floor ladies' room.

I know, I know, you just can't wait for a million more shots. Yeah, you just hush, or you may just find yourself watching digital video of the Chard Challenge of '06. Oh yeah.
