Antsy excited happy sunny Friday

I was going to give you a random assortment of words words words! but you guys like pictures so much... Well, I confess, I like pictures, too. And I like how the pictures lately show how much I dig shades of blue. Blue must be my second-favorite color after pink. And to think just the other day I was walking down the street (doo wah ditty ditty dum ditty doo) pondering favorite colors and how I'd never think "blue is my favorite color!" [Note: I keep typing "favority." Read into that what you will.] Royal blue, plain blue, primary color blue is not my favorite (totally did it again) color. Shades of blue are my favorite (thought about it in advance that time) colors. And pinks. I choose them again and again. Red, bright red sweaters totally make my day. Purple, plain and hardy, not so much. Robust oranges: rich and exciting but tiring, the eye almost starts to shun the brightness.

Okay now the photos.

On the left, we have the Sockapaloooza sock; I've made good progress but there's been lots of tinking and some ripping. I find the "same row pattern offset by one stitch" more confusing than two different row patterns. What I do like about this yarn is how much like violets or pansies in the yard it looks, perfect springtime socks. I'm worried about their being 100% cotton, but I just couldn't find a lot of sockweight yarn without animal fibers--in fact, not much at all. I may weave some elastic into the cuffs after I finish them; we'll see.

On the right, the second sock of a pair I started in January or so. The first is done at home, and was interrupted by several others and much other knitting. Such is the way of second socks knit for onesself; but one can easily spot a non-knitter when she exclaims, "Daphne! You knitted socks for your boyfriend before you knitted the second sock of your own pair!" I calmed her by telling her I'd knit more than one pair for myself before.

I must be feeling alive, the verbosity is back! At lunch I went yarn-shopping with a colleague, collecting beautiful shades of Cashsoft DK for another colleague's baby blanket, and finally picked up the lonely Alchemy mohair sample scarf that no one else wants to knit. I'd been leaving it alone out of guilt, feeling like I was hogging the lacey mohair with lots of yardage (and thereby yarn credit)--but apparently I don't need to worry so much about that.

I've been back at my desk for 1.5 hours, have edited much commentary on Rick Steves for our Web site, and only just a few minutes ago figured out my boss had left for the weekend right before I got back from a long lunch (yarn shopping takes FOREVER, you know). This and the bright sky (cloudy right now, but bright) made for the prime yarnshots above.
