Culture in '06

Jan 01, 2006 11:45

I will move this entry to January 1 2006 when we get there. Like my booklist, I will update it continually. (Note: booklist is a little messy. I plan to nix certain items from the list and separate writing goals out into a separate list for 2006. That's a big one and is going to take a little ramping up to.)

in 2006, I plan to attend at least...

1 opera (I've never been!)
1 symphony-type performance
2 ballet performances (you can get cheap seats)
1 play (it's been a long time. again, may need to get the cheap seats.)
Anne Allgood's play at ACT, 5/11 ("Mrs. Witherspoon")
Steve Martin's "The Underpants," also at ACT, 11/12 -- thanks to Shannon for giving me her extra ticket. It was funny and worth the effort of going down there. It still kills me that it's so expensive though!
4 talks or readings
David Brancaccio talk 3/29 (yeah, a KCTS event, but still!)
3 art events -- museums, openings, etc.
Living Barge boat tour 4/1
Chicago: Museum of Contemporary Art (Chris Ware, Alexander Calder, interesting piece on ... mythical place with mirrored mountain, cake, etc)
Chicago Culture Center (name?)
Quilts of Gee's Bend & related works at Greg Kucera Gallery with Karol Sat 8/19
going to Chicago and Madison 6/21, gotta count for something even if I only go mess around all week!
Seattle Bicycle Master Plan meeting tonight 8/29/06
Best American Comics panel 10/16, super rad.
Little Miss Sunshine (title?), 10/28, awesome.
For Your Consideration, 11/18, pretty funny.
Doubletake at EMP, 12/27, with dad. Very good to see art/masterpieces and got me thinking... good.

This is a pretty simple list for now but past experience tells me that if I don't make it a goal, I won't do it. Yep, it's mid-June and I'm quite lacking on the list!
