Concert Review - The Dillinger Escape Plan (17th May 2008) UNSW Roundhouse

I know this was a long time ago. I simply haven't had a chance to do this before. People have to know.

So, after a lot of waiting for this night to arrive, myself and my younger brother were in attendance. We arrived just before the doors opened and slowly filed into the building.

We grabbed a beverage from the bar and then chatted and patiently waited for "Hospital: The Musical" to take the stage. I had never seen these guys before and in no time they were up and impressing everyone there.
They nearly lost the crowd a few songs in when between music the lead singer requested people in the crowd go and buy some of their CD's from the band mechandise stand. He recieved a boo and calmly responded with "Sorry, I'd just like to be able to get home."
After this, the band were a frenzied noisecore demon. The screams being truly impressive already, it seemed as if the effort behind them raised further and the band blew us away.

After that, "Colliseum" began and I have to admit that while there were some fans of theirs present, I had never heard them and the subsequent barrage they delivered, while melodic in parts, was lost on me. They played with energy and no doubt impressed their own fans, who looked like they were going to have a stroke, I just didn't get it.

Then the main act came out, I thought briefly about moving closer and convinced myself not to with a couldn't be bothered shrug. We were already standing in a prime spot in from of the mixing tables anyway, so the sound would be good anyway. When they began to play Panasonic Youth at what seemed like an increased pace, I was glad of my choice. While it took Greg a minute to get his voice on par with his enthusiasm, his stage antics never let up. It is also astonishing to see some of the more complicated fretwork involved in some of the more melodic parts of Sugar Coated Sour being performed during a crowd surf. They played all the hits from the old albums and the highlights off the new album. I wish I could write more, but I have to get back to work.

This was the best concert I have ever seen.
