OMFJCGBXM!!!!! How long is this router taking to reboot?

Answer: a very very long time.

Since getting ill/off kilter/disabled, I've become very nerdy. Or should that be geeky? Let's stick with techy. I love technology, ain't no doubt, and recently I've become a dabbler, which has proved to be very dangerous ground. For instance, I'm just in the process of converting my old wireless router into a wireless repeater or extender or something. Except it's not quite going to plan. Not that I have much of a plan to start with. Ugh!

Yes, I've begun to meddle and dissect and attempt to improve just about anything with chips and circuitry that I can lay my hands on. I've jailbroken an apple tv box (jailbreaking is hacking to remove manufacturer restrictions and add new software), I've rooted two tablets (rooting is much the same as jailbreaking), I've hacked an Ouya box (an android gaming device that I run XBMC on ((XBMC is a media platform)) and programmed it to accept a new air mouse with keyboard. I've also taken apart my old iBook and tried to replace wiring and an inverter to get the screen backlight working - I've yet to formally declare that episode a wash out.

The thing that plops te proverbial cherry on my nerdy/geeky ice cream sundae is my interest and participation in Ingress. Ingress is a virtual reality role playing game that is a cross between geo caching (an online treasure hunt played out in the open) and red rover (you remember - "red rover, red rover we call blah blah over"). Produced by Niantic Labs, a Google offshoot, the purpose of the game is to collect information about places of local interest and get people out and about walking. When you first join the game you have to pick a side - either the resistance or the enlightenment (that's what I went for) and then using your scanner you have to discover portals, which tend to be located at areas of local interest. You can hack these portals to acquire weapons and XM (exotic matter), which you use to power yourself.

The game includes several training exercises so you learn how to hack portals, how to use weapons, etc, and a secure transmission element where you can communicate with other people in your cell or in your region. Folks are really friendly and incredibly helpful to newbies. It's like Annika Rice's Treasure Hunt but with electromagnetic weapons. :)

Obviously I'm at a slight disadvantage, not being able to walk that well, but luckily there's a portal just behind me house that I can hack from my spare bedroom. Sweeeeet! Check out the game here: http://www.ingress.com/

In other news, I've decided that I have to get back swimming (or paddling again) irrespective of this stupid heart thing. So I've treated myself to a wetsuit to try and keep a bit warmer. Part of this stupid condition is an inability to regulate my temperature so I get very cold swimming (particularly at the Aquatic Centre) which then causes me to cramp. I opted for this one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CXVKLXA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I know at £22.50 you get what you pay for but it's only for indoor swimming and seems to have pretty good reviews so I shall suck it and see.
