Cat fight, everyone loves a cat fight!

Sorry to disagree, Dance Hall Crashers, but not everyone loves a cat fight.

This morning I was gathering my belongings together ready to set sail for yoga at the Buddhist Centre in town when I heard a choking noise coming from the hallway. I quickly realised that the choking noise was coming from Smudge Arthur (cat) as he'd somehow managed to slip his collar over his jaw and had it stuck around the back of his mouth. He was trying to run and claw the collar off at the same time.

Quite naturally he was panicking so when I tried to grab him to help remove the collar he went beserk and was slashing out at me. And because the cat appeared to be attacking me and was generally manic, William, the dog, panicked and started growling and lunging at the cat. You can picture the scene, cat running, choking and slashing; dog chasing cat; me chasing both of them dripping in blood. It was horrible. I tried pulling on the collar to engage the safety opening mechanism but that didn't work because the clasp was in Smudgie's mouth and presumably hurt a lot as he'd get even wilder. Eventually I managed to slide the collar round and break open the clasp.

At this point my community transport had arrived so I went out, covered in blood and cat hair, to ask the driver to wait while I tended to Smudgie and also to my wounds. As you can see in the photo, he did a good job. The slashes don't hurt too much. What really hurts are the deep puncture wounds between my knuckles. Unsurprisingly they are a bit swollen and feel very bruised. I've washed them a lot and stuck some calendula on to try and ward off any disgusting cat-borne diseases.

I'm back from yoga now resting in bed and Smudgie is under the covers fast asleep on my belly. He seems OK. if a bit subdued. The dog has given him a good sniff and lick so I think we're all friends again. What a day!
