And I missed you like the deserts miss the rain

Forgive me Father, it's been a while since I last blogged. There's this thing happening at the moment that I can't blog about but it's such a huge thing it's making everything else seem a bit, well, unimportant and pointless. The 'thing' has made getting back into my routine after my trip to St Alban's rather tricky. I haven't touched the piano and other than a few scribblings in a drawing book, I haven't done much in the way of creativeness.

Today marks the day I try to get my head round everything that's going on and get back on track with my daily activities and tackle my lengthy to do list. Though I'm running slightly behind as I didn't wake until 10.20 this morning. D'oh!

The day so far has been spent researching various brands of crutches. Given that I've been using crutches for nine months and will probably be on them for the next nine I thought it was high time I invested in a decent pair. Kowsky seemed to be the brand most raved about but I struggled to find a dealer in this country selling closed cuff rather than open. I need closed cuff so that they hang off my arms when opening doors, using stair bannisters and using cashpoints etc. The next best seem to be Ossenberg crutches, sold in this country by the http://www.thegermancrutchcompany.co.uk/. They sell both open and closed cuff crutches and have the choice of ergonomic or anatomical grips. The anatomical grips are sculpted to match the contours of the hand whereas the ergonomic handles are a normal shape but a bit rounder and softer than traditional crutch handles. I opted for the blackberry closed cuff anatomical handle crutch, just like these:

Gotta love the reflectors in the handle. :) Absolute bargain at £60 (inc postage).

In other news, I've received my concessionary bus pass that entitles me to free travel on any bus pretty much anywhere in the country after 9.30am. It also allows me free off peak travel on trains and trams in Greater Manchester. I've also discovered that I can travel for free on the Ring and Ride service. It is just as it sounds, you ring up to book a ride. I've used it to get to Chorlton and back so far. It's going to prove very useful for things like swimming where I'm getting the bus and arriving at the pool exhausted already.

A completely random aside but has anyone else noticed that the woman's glasses in the Optimax advert are the most ugly and reflective glasses ever made? I smell a rat!
