A good weekend. Dinner at Juan's Flying Burrito last night. Joseph came to NOLA this weekend, which is always a treat, as I never get to see him. Kevin, Colin, and Kelsey came back to NO for the first time since Katrina to gather their stuff, and last night we had a swell night out at the Rendez-Vous and The Balcony, where we ran into lots of people we knew, and lots of good times. The Garden District was pimped, and our local celebrity status continued spreading. "OMG!! YOU'RE WORKING WITH SOMEONE FROM BTE?!?!?!?!" Hehehe...yep. I am.
Honestly, this was probablly the most "normal" weekend I've had since the hurricane. Familiar faces, familiar places, familiar headaches in the morning. I miss these things. I miss being able to stay at a bar with my girlfriend and our friends til when-ever-i-feel-like-it-o'clock. I miss having my pick of any restaurant in town. I miss New Orleans.
She's starting to perk up again. Small little rays of sunshine poking through the dark clouds though. Even a small sign of hope is better than nothing.
Literally from 2nd grade on, there was a homeless man uptown, who I saw constantly. He used to sit on Claiborne and Jefferson Ave. Had a cane. Very skinny. Some of the saddest eyes you'd ever seen. He was in this area when I got my license, when I graduated, when I came back to NOLA from college, and I actually saw him outside the Circle K on Claiborne the last time I went to Kevin's old apartment. He'd lost an eye. But still looked the same. I wonder where he was displaced to? I hope he got somewhere where he could eat, sleep in a bed, maybe find some work. I hope he's ok.
