review of Buckley's Mixture cough medicine

I have a cold, so I tried Buckley's Mixture cough suppressant for the first time. Pouring the liquid, the first thing I noticed about it is the white color and consistency that reminds one of things we don't mention in polite company. It looks like...phlegm. I've never seen any med look like this before. This product o' Canada is known to be terrible tasting, eh? Right now I can barely taste anything with a stuffy nose, so it tastes fine to me.
I like the tingly sensation as it goes down. I feel it working. The tingling and vapor action reminds me of Tiger Balm, which I am a fan of. Go Chinese herbalist medicine! Buckley's and Tiger Balm contain two of the same fun scented ingredients as Vick's vapor inhaler (I loved Vick's as a kid. I found out today that Vick's contains an isomer of methamphetamine). Buckley's attributes the "bad" taste of their Mixture to the herbals listed as inactive ingredients: camphor, menthol, Canada balsam, pine needle oil, tincture of capsicum. It has active ingredient dextromethorphan hydrobromide (like Robitussin) 12.5 mg/5 mL so everyone can consider it a real medicine. Also contains carageenan, water, and two sweeteners: glycerin and sodium saccharin. If I were a more astute chemist I might be able to tell you something about the 3 other ingredients.
