NAPAWF conference

The NAPAWF National Economic Justice Gathering 2004 was a success. I did "speaker buddy" duty as a volunteer. It was a simple exercise on the way to becoming more assertive, and yet I was nervous during both those workshops. The good thing about being nervous is that it kept me from falling asleep during those workshops.

Hearing Mee Moua, Hmong activist Minnesota State Senator (Majority Whip), speak was excellent. I have a phobia of taking leadership. When she encouraged each of us Asian America women to run for elected office, I felt like "Yeah!!! I can do it!" Also I left with the idea that winning isn't the only goal. In the process, you contribute to a dialogue, address the issues, and make connections with those in your community who in turn become advocates for you and the issues. Time to shake up the system.
