Jennifer Lawrence Confirmed for The Hunger Games

Ugggggggggh.

It's not that I have anything personal against Jennifer Lawrence. I haven't seen Winter's Bone, but I've read good things about her performance. And it's not even entirely that I had my heart set on Hailee Steinfeld as Katniss (though that is HUGE reason). We won't even get into the fact that Lawrence is blonde and blue-eyed and Katniss IS NOT ( that's a whole other issue I won't even get into).

No, my main beef is that Lawrence is 20 and looks it. At the beginning of the trilogy, Katniss is 16. By the end she's probably around 18, since Catching Fire takes places a year after The Hunger Games, and Mockingjay sometime after that (can't remember the exact time frame). By the end of filming all three movies Lawrence will easily be in her mid twenties.

So, I'm bummed. I was hoping for a younger actress. Isn't that kind of an integral part of the Hunger Games story? These are children being forced to kill each other. With twenty somethings it's like any other summer action flick. :/

WHAT'S MORE is that people are all hepped up over Hunter Parrish for Peeta. The same people who keep poo-poo-ing Lawrence are all for him and the dude is 23. Sometimes the double-standards put on women drive me up a wall. Lawrence is an old hag at 20, but Parrish is super hot so yay! :/ REALLY PEOPLE? REALLY?

In other YA book news, I read Leviathan and Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld. I've actually never read a steampunk novel before and I quite enjoyed these. I think my favorite part though, were the Darwinists, even if the idea of walking around INSIDE OF A WHALE creeped me the hell out (and I don't like the idea of using animals as weapons), because their stuff was soooo bizarre. Didn't have near the emotional impact The Hunger Games had on me, but they were both quite fun and I'm eagerly anticipating the next book.

book: leviathan, book: the hunger games
