A/N: Just a little drabble I had in my head. It's sappy and cheesy, but it needed writing.
They say that when you die, you go to a better place. Santana’s Catholic upbringing had left her with a certain mental picture of heaven, though. Pearly gates, towering golden spires, endless fields, the certain presence of the Lord and all his wonder. Which was why, when she slipped quietly off the mortal coil at the age of eighty-five, she was both delighted and deeply confused to awake as she opened the door to Brittany Pierce’s bedroom.
She opened it cautiously, and the wave of nostalgia that hit her was almost a physical thing. Everything was the same - just the way it had been when they were sixteen. The colors were bright, the soft music was something they’d have listened to together back then. The television was even playing Sweet Valley High. If she hadn’t been so confused, that alone might have made her cry. But what did, finally, push through the confusion and make her weep was Brittany. She was laying on the bed, dressed in her old Cheerios uniform, looking not a day older than sixteen. When she looked up to see Santana, she broke out her very best smile - the one that no one else, no one save Santana, had ever been allowed to see.
“San!” she shouted excitedly, jumping to her feet. “You’re finally here! I’ve been waiting forever for you!” Brittany had, San knew in that moment, predeceased her by two years. They’d had a long and happy life together, and it had hurt so badly to lose her, but both of them had faith they’d be reunited. And here they were. Brittany launched herself into her wife, clutching her tightly and raining kisses all over her face. Santana returned them with equal fervor, nearly overcome with the joy of being together with the one she loved. Finally, though, she had to break for air, and she had to ask questions.
“Britt-Britt - what is this? I mean - this is heaven, right? Why does it look like your room?”
“Isn’t it awesome?” Brittany cried. “I don’t get it all - I had this, like, guide, when I got here, who tried to explain it all, but I got confused. Everybody has their own place, is what I think she said. The place they were happiest. It’s different for everybody - but this is ours.”
“Yeah, it is,” Santana wept, and Brittany just held her. “But does that mean we can’t see anybody else?”
“Oh, no, no no!” Brittany shook her head. “It’s not like that at all. All you have to do is think of somebody. And then you can talk to them. They can come and visit you, you can go and visit them, whatever you want. You can even build a place together. Me and the other Glee kids, we built the auditorium at school. It was fun, and we still go there sometimes.”
“Are they all here now?”
“Almost,” Brittany nodded. “Only Mike and Tina aren’t. Quinn was the last one - before you, I mean. But that was - a while ago. I don’t know how long. Time doesn’t really matter up here. There’s not even any clocks.”
“Cool,” Santana brushed the tears from her eyes. She didn’t totally understand yet, but she knew she would. And for the moment, it didn’t matter. There was only one thing that did. “Well, seeing as how you’ve already got Sweet Valley High on, would you object to some sweet lady kisses?”
Brittany’s grin was ear-to-ear. “Why do you think I have it on?” She took Santana’s hand and led her to the bed. And once they were there, Santana knew for certain - she was in heaven.
