Because typing random complaints into lj is a form of therapy, right?
I'm just about done moving into my new office at the lab. I will make a list of Things I Do Not Like About New Office behind the cut, so people can skip it if they have better things to do in life :-P
Things I Do Not Like About New Office
-It is more cramped (though this I can get used to, as I have enough space to pull my chair in and out, and the desktop is about the same size, so that's not too big a deal)
-Despite having a window, it is darker than my old office. The people in this office like to leave the overhead lights off, relying on the window and hall lights for ambiance. Plus, my old desk was bordered by two white walls and a grey divider; this one is bordered on 3 sides by a black metal shelf unit and beyond that the door and a sliver of white wall.
-I take back that I don't care if it's cramped. In the old office, I had it set up where I could sit sideways with my feet on the old white CPU box or in the desk with my arms twisted around to type (terrible posture I know, but it was comfortable!). Pretty sure I can't manage that here.
-The desk drawers are clanky black metal instead of smooth wood.
-The new monitor is not widescreen, and appears fuzzy (though my old monitor was fuzzy and my eyes got used to it after a while. Perhaps the new one is fine but my eyes have been permanently altered).
-I miss the old-school white keyboard, with tall keys that made a satisfying percussive sound and feel as I'd type. The new compact Dell boxes don't have the old PS/2 ports so I'm stuck with the new black Dell keyboard. Call me crazy, but this point is really bugging me. Anyone know where to get a PS/2->USB adapter?
-The new office is next to the copy room. Yes, this was a major advantage in moving and is still a positive thing. I complain b/c one of my old officemates just recently bought a printer for the office and got it to work, so we could print without having to walk across the whole building to the copy room to retrieve it. Curse the chronological irony!!!
That is all for now.
