About two and a half weeks ago I had an "interview" with a life insurance broker for a case manager position. It wasn't so much an interview though as it was a typing test and a computer simulation with multiple choice questions. The lady who oversaw the whole thing didn't even ask me any questions about myself or my prior work/experience...she had my resume, but that was it.
The next day I got a call from her and she offered me a job, starting at $10 per hour and 30 hours per week. I took it and started the day after that. It was very odd, considering the almost complete lack of any formal interview process, but I think they were desperate for case managers, and given the fact that I had just recently been through three interviews for three other places, and two of those interviews had been complete train wrecks, I wasn't about to turn down a job offer.
Been working since then, and I love it. Basically, when people buy life insurance they can go through us, and we assist in the process and do a lot of the legwork. I work as a case manager, which means I go through my list of customers and see what the given insurance company needs from their client (information, additional forms signed, etc.) and then call/e-mail/mail the request to the customer. It sounds kinda uninteresting, but it's actually not...every case is different, and I'm busy 100% of the time, so work doesn't drag. On top of it all, I'm learning a ton about life insurance, which is something I knew absolutely nothing about prior to starting.
So things are looking up. I was worried for a length of time that I wouldn't have a job until my job at the golf course became available once the course re-opened for the spring, but luckily that won't be the case (although I'll probably work there on weekends for the extra cash...it's not like it's really work anyway). It also seems like this is a place with plenty of opportunity for promotion, so who knows, I may be in it for the long haul, assuming I don't get fired or end up hating it.
Neither seems likely at the moment.
