Belle and Sebastian Concert

It took me forever to find time t write this for the SGN:

Belle and Sebastian Dance at the Paramount
by Craig Trolli

On Cinco de Mayo, Belle and Sebastian played the Paramount Theatre.

The two Stuarts in the band were very silly and friendly. They would have conversations in between songs with the audience.

Lead singer Stuart Murdoch had to take his shoes off twice because they were new and impeding his dancing. He was kind of like a kid in need of Ritalin, which was very cute and endearing. He played keyboards, a guitar he bought in Olympia("It's nervous tonight, its playing it's hometown, so I'll switch to piano!" he told us.), and the tamborine.

The band, which had tons of instruments all over the stage (organ, drum kit, keyboards), and many musicians (like 4 violinists and a couple extra guitarists), played a lot of the new album, but also songs from eps and singles, like "I'm Waking Up to Us".

Stuart the Lead Singer invited a bunch of audience members up to dance and play a bunch of exotic sound effect instruments for a couple of the dancier new songs. One guy grabbed a microphone and thanked them for doing a 'moment of silence for 9/11' at their last concert. When they were finished, Stuart told them 'now go back to your places!'

The sight of Stuart dancing in his white socks in his thin little shirt....what? Where was I? Oh, yes, artistic integrity! So, the next time the band is in town, catch them. Oh, and opening act, The Decemberists, are from Oregon, and are really awesome! Catch them anytime they're in town, too!
