Judy Garland X-mas Special

I've seen two Christmas dragfests in the last week! Dina Martina was funny, of course, especially when trying to sell the Re-Bar to the tune of an 80s Liza Minelli/ Pet Shop Boys song. And if you dig her, then you'll like...

"THE JUDY GARLAND CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
A camped-up stage version of the notorious 1963 TV special wherein the tragic diva convinced America that she was a boozehound. Featuring Andrew Tasakos as Judy. Open Circle Theater, 429 Boren Ave N, 382-4250. $10. Fri, Sat, 10 pm. Through Dec 16."

Josh totally throws down, playing two drag characters: young Liza Minelli and even younger Lorna Luft. He sings, dances, and does acrobats. Along with Gary Zinter, Josh has a few fun song-n-dance numbers that steal the show.

All they need is an audience. Opening night was last night and there needed to be more peeps. Apparently, they loved our duo's buzzed asses, but we can't be there every night, of course. So, grab a couple drinks and then have loud, riotous fun as Judy Garland swears and passes out in fucked up positions, homoeroticism runs rampant, and Josh's two characters try to out perform and be prettier than each other! :-) (don't worry, it's not as high concept as I just made it sound....)

And I'll just say, I'm very proud of the Bad Actor alumni involved. Josh, Gary, and Sarah Papineau (wig maven), were all in Bad Actor Productions' maiden voyage, Girls Just Want to Have Fun: The Movie! And I was in a couple readings of a play with Andrew Tasakos, who is a casual genius as he hallucinates and sees animals and scary santas onstage. Go see the show! Do it! :-)
