Christmas in October

whew, My hands are absolutely numb. Whenever the weather gets nice and cold, I start itching to get outside. Tonight, after the game, everyone left our house and there was nothing to do, so I decided to take advantage of the cold weather that arrived this morning. I headed out and rode to campus.

I love our campus in the fall. Geez, I love anything in the fall. The sight of the fallen leaves and that smell just beat out anything else. So I rode around for a while then went up north of campus which is my favorite place in Norman. I wish more than anything that I lived up there in one of those small, old houses surrouned by trees with cool porches just perfect for a hammock or a couch. As I rode around, the smell of Christmas-time enveloped me. Im not sure what exactly it was, maybe the cold mixed with the trees, smoke from someone's chimney or something completely else, but that is THE perfect smell.

I made my way over to my favorite park in Norman that I used to frequent so much freshman year when I lived on campus. I used to go there and just sit for an hour or 2 in the freezing cold and just think, sit and pray. I went there again tonight. Nothing's really changed except for the gigantic streetlight they added last year which made that place so much less cool. SO much less secluded. This park is so great. It is sunken down about 20 feet lower than the street level. There are lots of gigantic trees but still open space to see the stars at night. I used to spin on the merry-go-round and lie down on my back and look at the stars while it spun round and round and round.

this all put me in a nostalgic mood and a Christmas-y mood. Right now Im drinking hot chocolate and listening to the Bright Eyes Christmas album. me and julie are talking about 2nd semester freshman year and how awesome it was. for some reason, Christmas time and that semester just go together even though they werent even the same time. That was the best time of my life. me, scott, julie and hillary were inseperable for that whole semester. every night, me and scott would go down there and we'd all just sit around til early in the morning. one night we stayed up and got a bunch of dry erase markers and wrote on all the windows and dry erase boards in their hall. We completely covered the big windows of the study lounge. we just laughed our butts off. it may not sound like fun, but man i miss that. Another night, when it started snowing at around 2 AM, we all went out into the sleet and snow and walked up to the Union, making a 30 minute stop to cram all 4 of us into a phone booth and make prank phone calls to anyone we could think of. Then we skated off to the union. I think I got to bed that night around 6 AM. that was honestly one of the best nights of my life and I cant remember if Ive had that much fun since then.

sorry for jumping around so much. Ive got so much crap going thru my head right now. tests, and the ladies and lots of other meaningless crap. ugh
