My God I feel old now. I remember watching this on Valentine's Day my freshman year at DePaul. This was after Pulp Fiction came out, but I hadn't seen that yet either. Up to that point my movie experience consisted mostly of Popcorn fair. This movie started to open my horizons.
This may still be my favorite Tarantino. I saw it at the 3 Penny Cinema in Chicago when it first came out, and was pretty well knocked out, laughing out loud often. But when the Mexican stand-off finale's smoke had cleared, I was among the converted and set about recommending it to everyone I knew.
And hey, we're not old - we've just got a head start on everyone else. I, for one, am thankful for it.
That's a great way of looking at it. Plus, when I was younger I was, in more ways then I can count, an uncultured boob. So I guess I don't idealize youth so much as I acknowledge that I no longer have it.
