I haven't been posting, but here's a good reason why...

I haven't been in the mood to post lately... and here's why.... some of it is purely laziness, but recently (after Feb 7th) I've had my mind pre-occupied with family. My grandmother was admitted to the hospital that night, and the world has seemed to turn upside down for me since then. Things are better at this point, but still, its very hard when things hit so close to home. We received a phonecall around 8p on Tuesday night from my Aunt Christine, stating that my grandfather, and my uncle Rick had brought her to the emergency room. Apparently, at dinner time, she got extremely shaky. When my grandfather had her meal prepared for her, she decided to put it all on her napkin, not her plate. He thought this was odd and asked her what she was doing, and if she was feeling ok? She then continued to try and cut her thick steak with a plastic fork. At this point, my grandfather was extremely worried, so he told her that he was taking her to the hospital, and thus he called his son Rick, who lives just up the street from him to help him get her there. My parents shortly headed down to the hospital after they received the phonecall, and my mom has pretty much been by her side everyday, along with my grandfather. My mom was taking notes on everything the doctor was saying/discussing with my grandfather. The doctors were throwing around a lot of words/phrases, so my mom wanted to have everything in writing, so it wouldn't be so overwhelming. Even still, its overwhelming. Dementia, diverticulitis, diabetes, mini strokes... all things that are apparently taking place. Dementia is the really scary part, but it is something that just about the whole family has felt coming on within the past year or year and a half. When talking to my grandmother, she's not the same, she's very distant. She has a very hard time remembering things as well. These were all signs that we've all picked up on... but unfortunately, there is no cure, nor treatment for dementia/alzheimers. I think this bugs me the most, knowing that my grandmother will only get worse, and possibly won't even recognize her family in the future. I'm sure it is going to be hard for my grandfather as well.
So, my week and weekend has been pretty much consumed with family. I took a half a day of work on Friday, to spend time with family, and clear my head. I also was developing another cold on top of all of this. Caitlin felt a little left out this week, because normally we get to see each other on Thursdays, but because I wasn't feeling well, I opted not to see her Thursday night. Same went for Friday night, and I knew she felt hurt by that. We talked about it, and things are ok now, but I know that it bugged her, and I felt bad about it. I kind of isolated myself from her when I found out what was happening to my grandmother, and being sick on top of it didn't help matters any. We did get together on Saturday, and we actually celebrated Valentine's Day that day... because I don't think I'd be able to make it to Manchester on Tuesday night... so we planned on doing it this weekend. I got her some beautiful purple (her favorite color) violets, and a card. Later in the day we went down to the hospital, together, to see my grandmother in the afternoon. My parents were there, my grandfather, my Uncle Dana and my brother, his wife and the two kids, and my Uncle Dale, Aunt Christine and her two kids were there as well. The hospital room couldn't really hold us all, so Caitlin and I didn't really stay all that long.
On the way home, I told her that I had planned on taking her out to dinner, so we could have some alone time, and celebrate Valentine's Day a little more in style. We went to the Impastable Dream, in Sanford, ME, but when we arrived there, it was too early. Apparently they start serving at 5p, so we had an hour to kill. Luckily downstairs, there is our favorite coffee shop, Aroma Joe's, so we went there and had a coffee, chit chatted a bit, and killed the time. We went back up to The Impastable Dream at 5 and had dinner. Then we drove back to my house, where we cuddled for a while, took a nap, and then later on ended up watching a horrible movie called "The Jacket" downstairs with my parents. She left after the movie.
Today, we're expected to get a NorthEaster (in New England, that refers to a large snowstorm). Thing is, its been snowing all day long, and we don't even have 3 inches of snow on the ground. It is however, very windy out, so a lot of it has been blowing about. I've been in my pj's all day long. I've taken 2 naps, and done pretty much nothing, barring a little cleaning earlier this morning. My father and I are planning on going outside later on this evening to clean out the driveway. That will be the highlight of the day, besides watching a dvd earlier this afternoon. We finally watched "Mr & Mrs Smith... we've only had it in from Netflix for like a month!
Anyways, that is what is going on in my life. I hope everyone else is doing well.

Until the next installment...

valentine's day, gramma
