I hate Bs, 3.0 and all the rest of the ways of expressing shy of an A. I know grades are not the important thing, but for good reasons, it would be nice to get better grades. I'm perfectly happy to get a B on project when I feel I cut some corners and/or disregarded advice, or even when I'm not personally happy with my performance, like now in ( Read more... )

I felt the same frustration in some of my classes. I couldn't have gotten a bad grade in my CS classes if I tried because I obviously had a more firm grasp on the subjects than just about anyone else there, but when it came to my human development, it was B's no matter what. He only gave out 3 A's to the entire class though, so it was hard to feel too bad about it. Part of the problem was that he didn't understand math. The way he graded extra credit assignments meant that anything less than 100% could not possibly have any influence on the final grade, and he only gave partial credit on extra credit assignments. I tried to explain it to him and he didn't get it - "it's extra credit! Of course it counts!"

Then there was my women & gender class. It was taught by two professors, and they took turns grading; you never knew who was going to grade your paper. What one prof loved, the other hated, and vice versa. I was constantly modifying my writing style to fit the suggestions left on my last paper, only to continue being punished for not meeting the other's expectations. Adding insult to injury, my final paper had the comment that what I had to say was very interesting and we should meet for coffee to discuss it further some time! Fine, but who the fuck are you?!?! I never found out, and I think I got a B in that class too.
