Report: Settling in

Oct 17, 2008 18:56

It's taken some walking around, but I believe I've found someplace that suits my needs. There is the river on one side, a park on the other, but more importantly it seems to have been a sculptor's studio, so there are many tools and some raw materials. I walked by a print shop on the way, but it was in a very bad state. The apartment itself is also going to take quite a lot of work; I'll finish that first.

It isn't all that different here from what I was trained for, except that I'm without a team. The local Web is helpful but lacking in many areas. After I've taken care of my living conditions, I will see about working on that. There is a lot of disorganization about, possibly because the population is so heterogenous. Once I achieve some contacts, it might be useful to bring up the concept of Commonwealth, which they don't seem to be familiar with. It occurs to me that as social experiments go, these circumstances have great potential.

I've offered my services to a few, but have yet to be taken up on my offer. I should repeat it: I have any number of art, craft, engineering and scientific skills that I'd like to put to use. I don't need any payment except possibly some help in tidying up my new home. Please get in touch with me.
