fire_daemon  asked me about my 'science' background....and got more than he bargained for...5000 wordsEDIT:duh... 5000 letters! not words..doh! about my recent history, and science interests....

Its pretty descriptive of me so I'm posting it because I always manage to not write about myself.

So here's some prehistory...Give me a job!!!!

Here's a cool image from my early a-life. It represents the time evolution of two ant 'hives'. as time goes => red goes to yellow, blue goes to cyan. Ants of the different 'colonies' are hostile...and chase eachother. The 'ants' can move in 3 directions. The double helixes represent two ants chasing eachother...

This was done on a very old 3d package "POV-RAY". You typed out your code in a script...then you waited 10 to 20 minutes...and then a picture popped up. So troubleshooting took forever. Now that I know java and maya I have ants that run around in real time by the hundreds. But the POV-RAY made some groovy images and inspired later techniques for creative modeling methods.

Here is a model made years later in Maya 6. I modeled pyramidal cells from the cerebellum(? i think). The denrites of the neuron were made with a modeling tool I made which involved an 'ant' that extruded a little tube as it randomly 'browsed' 3d space. So what was once time evolution of a bunch of ants is now a pyramidal cell...

Another view down the axons...I wanted a lot of 'focal blur' to simulate microscopy (a word I had to write because I hate it...its impossible to say..)..microscopic photos typically have very narrow depth-of-field because of the magnification method..
