Last week, I was working remotely from the dining room, as I often do in the mornings. My littlest daughter, who is five, decided to make me a lovely Valentine. She carefully cut out a heart-shaped piece of paper, drew a picture of me, carefully colored it, and glued little plastic gems to the perimeter of the paper. She took a great deal of time and effort to make this very special Valentine. Of course, when she delivered it to me, I gave it the seriousness it deserved, commenting on the symmetry of the gem pattern and the neatness of the artwork. When I was done accepting it, she said something that really made me feel special.
"I think I will make another one....for the cat."
And she did.
