First post from a long-time lurker!
I guess I just felt like showing off my first 'major' knitting project...
DISCLAIMER: I "may" or "may not" have put on my choir robe and cavorted about for pictures once I completed this project. Be cautious of similar effects, should you decide to knit one of your own.
As a preface, I've been a fan of the Harry Potter books for ages. About a year ago, I got a quirky notion in my head to, with no prior knowledge, go to the store, buy some needles and yarn, and learn myself some knittin'! Little did I know what a complex and fascinating world I was diving into. I've taught myself the basics from internet tutorials, and am still involved in a long, patient-grandmother-less learning process.
And so, after months of being too busy to pick up a new project, along came the Hogwarts-themed scarf, with a
wonderful pattern by Lauren Kent. It was my first experience knitting with round needles, but I picked it up quickly (along with things like switching colors and "oh no i dropped some stitches how am i going to save my ass?").
I used size 7, 12-inch circular needles and cheap-ish acrylic yarn. The scarf was knitted in a round, so it's basically like a tube, closed at the ends (and really plush and thick!). It's also longer than I am tall (I'm going to guess 6 feet). The whole process took about 25 hours, total. And now my friend wants me to knit her a Slytherin one for Christmas. My fingers are whining in protest, already! :D
It's far from perfect, but something I'm proud of.
Anyway, here's what you came for.. pictures!
Scarf on floor with curious cat.
And the scarf being modeled! (ignore: the weird, uncomfortable look on my face. I think I was trying not to laugh.)
Aaaannd... Pose! (ignore: trash can in background)
Fluffy cat added for gratuitous cuteness. (ignore: another weird look on my face, hanging madrigal dress).
Well, there you have it!
