My first crack at making a mask

This one turned out well and only took a couple of days. The next one I do will be more complex. Because of my unfamiliarity with the papier mache base I figured I'd give myself a break and just make simple shapes.

It turned out really well. I have tried using assorted paper clays and paper maches and, LOL, it was never as smooth as this. So much fail :-)

Thanks so much for this detailed info. I live in a very dry place and it helps a lot. I just worked on my first papermaking project at the art college and it turned out pretty good, but I didn't quite know what I was doing...the instructor had us use a meshy fabric called tarlton to place over our shapes (I had spheres) and then screen on the paper.
