mayfairgrin - Pelicagnosis

The title of Pelicagnosis is no empty play on words. These four tracks do venture quite some distance into the realm of gnosis. Here is a blend of ambient sounds with addition of guitar, vocals, and other instruments, resulting in a feast for the ears.

A look at the credits for each track will show you that this isn't a weekend warrior laptop production. This thing is big, and there's a depth and devotion being expressed here that merits a deep and devoted listening.

Haunted textures of sound are served forth in classic Djinnestan style in this unexpected EP release. Do ghosts relive their dying moments? Do they have unfinished business, or messages for the living? Without explaining the concept of this album, I shall leave you to infer what you can from the track titles and a close listening to these haunted soundscapes.

Djinnestan's art consists of heavily processed acoustic, electronic, and sampled sounds, woven into rich sonic textures. Typically these tracks are lucky accidents spawned from my efforts to create textures and pads for my other recording projects (Saluki Regicide, Akashic Crow's Nest, etc). But with such sonic richness, they need to be appreciated in their own right.

Mystified - Rain I

Rain is a series of conceptual CDs produced under the auspices of Webbed Hand Records. Each Rain is a CD-length ambient recording ideal for listening to while relaxing, working, or socializing. Typically the recordings in this series are minimalistic soundscapes, with motifs played out cyclically and repetitively, rather than progressively, in order to induce hypnotic states.

Mystified's "Rain 1" is a pleasing wash of white noises, cycling in slow rhythms. Waxing and waning brushstrokes of static, rumbles, and other obscure sounds lull the mind into a deep and peaceful state. This album is ideal for meditation, trancework, and quiet activities. It is recommended that you play it at low volume, as it is meant to be listened to peripherally, not directly.
