It Came To Me Like A Flash Of Light
It's not really a crackbunny, more of an idea for an answer to a question I've asked myself for quite a long time.
Why is Bill Turner called "Bootstrap"?
Well, once the Black Pearl got attacked in the middle of the night, when Bill was fast asleep in his (or Jack and his) hammock. He felt in charge for commanding the ship, as Jack was incredibly inebriated, the way a captain should not be while his ship is being shot at, and he knew that Barbossa might take advantage of that fact. So he put on his brand new BOOTS, the ennervingly thick and unhandy laces taking him ages to tie them up.
So when he was finally done putting on his boots and tried to sheath his cutlass, he noticed that he wasn't wearing a bealt to hold his weapons. He then realised that he wasn't wearing anything but his boots. But he heared the battlecries on deck, and he knew there is no time for any further delay. He held a cutlass in one hand, grabbed a pistol with the other, and sprinted on deck to fight for his captain and his ship.
So, with the cunning use of weapons and nudity, the offenders were defeated. Jack heard the stories of Bootstrap Bill the next day and was very upset not to have taken part of that battle. He tried to make Bill fight in the nude again, but Bill would've never done that just for fun, and furthermore he didn't want his billy to be cut off by accident.
