Guys, today I went to the most awesome house gig party thing ever.
The house was owned by Darren Hanlon; Sarah Blasko and triple j radio presenter Robbie Buck were in the audience, and also Corey aka CarCrashLander gave me a free cd because I am fantastic. He came from Portland, Oregon, and thus also played for the Decemberists' Her Majesty album, and he thinks Colin Meloy is a wanker. This girl introduced herself as Evelyn and talked to me like a normal human being, and then someone told me she was Pikelet and then I heard her play and oh my god, I would be out buying her album right now if it weren't 9.30 on a Sunday night. She puts such a wonderful twist on the kooky female artist genre, and she's so down-to-earth as well, I'm amazed.
The garden was beautifully landscaped, I wandered around barefoot as per usual, and we ate tofu burgers on the sly. It was a lovely day, since the weather finally cleared after weeks of miserable rain. Aeroplanes flew low overhead in direct competition with the artists playing tender lo-fi pop songs, offset by the low hum of industry figures conversing in the backyard, and as I lay in the hammock watching the afternoon sun set and swaying, swaying, arms outstretched, I realised I hadn't been so happy in so long as I was at that very moment.
