My uni has one of the most lenient exchange programs in the country, otherwise I would not be able to afford going ( ... )

It's not like you have to pay off HECS immediately! It really depends on what kind of program your uni offers and how competitive it is. I'm just deeply excited that this is finally happening

Go Seattle instead of L.A. There's actually not a whole lot in L.A.

New York - impossible to select things, there's so much to do. Definitely go see Wicked (if it's still on) on Broadway. Or at least a Broadway show.

You can do a Circle tour of Manhatten. It's about an hour and you get some great pic's of the Statue of Liberty and some other famous landmarks.

Go up the Empire State building. Most amazing view, ever. Get one of the passes (don't remember the name) that let's you into several of the major tourist attractions. It may seem like a bit of a rip off, but seriously, it's SO worth it. You bypass MAMMOTH queues. (You'll still have some, but they're nothing in comparison.)

If you can, go to the Cloisters. (The pass should also pay for this.) It's absolutely beautiful. You can take the subway and it's not too bad. (Subway is definitely the way to travel in New York. That and Taxi.)

...That's all I can think of atm. Will brainstorm some more. ;D

I hadn't thought of Chicago! I'll definitely look into it, it really depends on how much time I have to travel, looping back and forth from coast to coast :)
