Papa? Are you here? It's me, Martin.

Papa, Judai, Asuka, anybody...where are you?

(OOC: Strikes are semi-legible. After this, Martin thinks his father might be in Econtra. He's not, but Martin doesn't know that.)

confusion, papa

Huh? Yuki Judai, right here!

Wait. If you know me and Asuka, then are you...Martin? Kanou Martin?

Yeah, I've been here for a while. Half a year now.

Your dad's not here, sorry. Professor Chronos is, and Professor Daitoukuji too, but not him.

Half a year? But I just saw you this afternoon.

Papa's not--Oh.

It's this other world business. Time here passes different from other worlds or something.

Sorry. If it makes you feel any better, that means he doesn't have to fight or anything.

Yes, I know about the other dimensions as well as you do. What are you saying?

Maybe.

That's not the same thing. There's other dimensions, and then there's other worlds. Like in other dimensions--well, you've been to other dimensions. I think. Have you? All these different worlds make it hard to tell.

Anyway, on the other hand. In my world and some others', Asuka's a friend of mine at Duel Academy. But the Asuka here, in her world Fubuki died and their parents made Asuka stop dueling.

No, not yet.

Duel Academy? What's that? And Fubuki...died?

Oh.

Wait a minute. How do you know about other dimensions if you haven't been to them? What kind of world is yours like? You've never heard of the Academy, either. It's a school where people who want to have careers in the dueling world go, to study dueling.

Who doesn't know of the other dimensions? And isn't a school for dueling dangerous? The usual risks are bad enough, but if somebody has a strong card then the possibilities are even worse!

There's some kind of problem here. I didn't know about other dimensions until we got zapped into one and Misawa told us all about his and Zweinstein's research. And Duel Academy itself isn't dangerous! Just some of what goes on here and there.

But any kind of serious duel could result in injury, even small ones. The same holds for learning swordfighting and other types of combat, but duels are the most commonly learned and the monsters invoked can be too dangerous for such a school, even a small one. I've never seen anybody teach more than one or two people at a time.

All right. Definitely different worlds here. Maybe even different dimensions, because in the one I come from dueling is just a game, like a sport, or it used to be.

Different dimension? Just a game? I do remember rumors of a twelfth dimension, one where the penalties were less severe...

Come to think of it, Birdman mentioned something about that. A dimension different from his, where people could duel without risking their lives? And you're not from it?

Lives aren't always at risk, but there are some penalties to any duel--fatigue for the most leisurely ones, injury and worse for serious duels.
