Israel-Palestine

I hate the word justice.

Don't get me wrong. Justice itself is something everyone should strive for. But the word... The word is overused and is a logical shortcut that leaves no room for nuance or deep thought.

In the current conflict in Israel-Palestine, a lot of people all over the world feel the need to weigh in and push somehow for peace. I hear a few from the "Pro-Israel" side, but mostly I hear from the "Pro-Palestine" side because they are more active on Facebook. Many use the word justice in their condemnation of Israel's actions in Gaza. But the problem with that argument is that it does not recognize the injustices of the other party. It makes no mention of the rockets being lobbed indiscriminately into Israel or the tunnels being dug underneath its borders. Surely they are not there to smuggle in goods from Israel. In ignoring these the argument becomes useless against those who it is directed at. If you want the Israelis to listen, you must first acknowledge the injustices they face and the suffering they have felt.
