Here on the other side of the world...
Well, I finally made it here in Hong Kong, and finally got around to posting. This one will be short, as I'm supposed to be working on an article....but briefly,

Pros:

1) Food. Very cheap - 20 HK (about US$3) will get you many tasty treats - dumplings galore. Which, I'm told, is what Hong Kong is known for...

2) Work. The people at the Wall Street Journal are all fabulous. Very smart, very capable, and know a ton about asia, politics, journalism...really, everything. All very friendly too.

3) Hiking/view. The buildings are taller than many I've seen in New York, but the city-scape is juxtaposed against some really lovely mountains, and I hear the hiking is great. Unfortunately, I have yet to partake, which leads me to....

Cons:

1) Work. Very great, but also tough. I'm experiencing a bit of performance anxiety which is cutting into my ability to write (hence my writing this entry, and not the article that i have to finish by the end of the day). People are very great, but a bit intimidating (one of the full-time staff member - younger than me, fluent in Mandarin, French, and conversant in Russian and German. YIKES!).

2) Apartments. Very expensive. Still, despite the nearly $800 a moonth rent, I live in a closet. No, really - the shower, toilet, and sink all share the same lovely 2 foot square space. (at least I can sit while i shower, I suppose....)

2) Jet lag. 12 hour time difference will do that to you. The first few nights were particularly brutal. My body woke me up at 2 in the morning, and then I was expected somehow to function at work...but, other than that, everything is GREAT! I will post more frequently, but for now, that's it. I'll take pictures too.

Anyway, I'll get back to my article, then post again soon. Ironically, it may take my being on the other side of the world for me to actually be in touch...
