Passing the bar

Jul 11, 2010 23:12

We’re getting there with the bar! There were some setbacks today, that stemmed from a problem a little bit ago (turns out the counter isn’t quite the right size, but we’re making it work). But tomorrow we’ll take a quick trip to the hardware store to get the right size screws for the hinges, and be ready to bring it ’round the corner. I got the first layer of stain on there, in the process I rediscovered how hard it is to get stain off your hands, and we will hopefully finish it up tomorrow! Eeep! So then, after that, we’ll get to planning the bar warming party, ’cause we’ve got to break it in!

Had to work on Saturday morning, so I’m using that as an excuse to be sleepy all weekend. That, and we went down to Olympia this weekend, and I always have trouble sleeping on the bed down there. Either I can’t get to sleep, or I pass out too hard an wake up really sore the next day, I’m not sure why. But Paul brewed a pale ale, kegged a rye, and I got a surprisingly successful shopping trip in.

There was a birth in Paul’s family a week and a half ago, so this was our chance to go meet the baby! Paul’s cousin Evan and his wife Kate are now the proud parents of a gorgeous baby girl, Makenna. We both got to hold her, and everyone survived the experience. It was the youngest baby I’ve ever held (in my adult life, at least), with the tiniest toesies I’ve ever witnessed. The holding part is fine, but the picking up/setting down/handling is still not something I’m terribly ready for yet, with the weak necks and the soft spot…babies’ heads freak me out. But it was great to meet the little cutie, and catch up with mom & dad.

Gregor gets here on Tuesday! I haven’t seen anything on the news about swaths of destruction on the route between Denver & here, so he must be keeping himself out of trouble for the most part, and remembering which side of the road to drive on. His grand adventure started in Chicago, then he flew to Denver and is driving here & staying with us for a bit before heading down to San Diego for ComiCon, and then we’ll see him again at GenCon in the beginning of August.

Whew! And now it’s cooler out, so I can get back to baking!
