Summary: "Then you're aware that he was born a woman?" The officer doesn't look like he's about to laugh, which is a plus. Warning: transphobia.
Notes: I can't recommend this story enough. The author offers a very credible portrayal of a sadly still transphobic future, but also gives us real hope that things do get better. Kirk's characterization is spot-on and the characterization of McCoy as good but imperfect man rings very true to life. A deft and subtle rendering of issues we don't often see in fic.
