Many Days Late and Many Dollars Short

I debated writing my thoughts on “I Am Unicorn” up because I'm already way late to the party and massively behind on spoilers due to illness and I have a lot of mixed feelings about this episode that may shift with the direction that the story is headed ( Read more... )

:D I love reading you recaps, no matter how late, and I hope you are feeling better.

On Quinn:
First I agree with you about Shelby being emotionally manipulative. She's using the Beth like a bargaining chip against both Quinn and Puck, and its uncomfortable to watch. Now as to how all this plays out for Quinn's character...I'm still in wait and see mode. One big difference that I'm getting from this season is that it feels like a lot of what we've gotten so far is set up for long term stories. So even if I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like large parts the journey, I'm not sure yet what their long term goal is for her and how its going to affect her character.

Blaine's audition: I admit, the idea that Blaine was passive-aggressive about his song choice is bizarre to me. Even in a real world setting, we saw that this was a last minute choice on his part. Auditions take time to prepare, especially with music that is as difficult as WWS, so the idea that a few days beforehand he wouldn't use one of the two songs he had been preparing is odd to me. Granted, I'm basing this on my classical music experience and maybe singer/actors can prepare for a big audition with a character they hadn't been planning for in a few hours, but I doubt it.

Kurt: I also think people were reading too much into Kurt smile in the booty camp scene. Yes there was some selfish pleasure at Blaine saying that he probably won't get the part, but I thought his big grin was responding to Blaine saying 'to ~your Tony~' and that Kurt was flirting a bit with him (hence having to be told to put his hands down).

As for his audition and everything surrounding it...just like Quinn, I'm in wait and see mode. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that they just won't cast Kurt as anything, so when I started thinking about it, ITGS showed a lot of things that would make a good Riff, especially if they do Officer Krupke on the show. So my speculation as of now is that Kurt will get a part (Riff or not) and will be completely awesome when given good direction, which will conclude the typecasting story in a way that doesn't make RM look like a hypocrite.

Artie: Yeah, I liked Artie (for the most part) as well in this episode. I'm expecting that we will be getting a Blaine/Artie/Tina friendship later in the season, since they are all juniors. It will be interesting to see what that dynamic feels like, since it should be a major one next season.

Overall, the season so far still feels like exposition so I'm not sure what to think about it yet. But the spoilers make me think that some of the little details we are going now are going to become plot points later, so it will be interesting to see if they can actually pull it off.

THEY WERE SOOOOOO FLIRTING AND IT WAS ADORABLE! I can't believe that fandom didn't squee itself apart at that, tbh. It was so cute and sweet.

I missed a lot of the reaction because I've been out of it, but what I did see was horrible beyond the telling of it. I will never understand this need to freak out at every hint that your pairing isn't perfect sunshine and roses 24/7. It frustrates me so much.

I agree that they are trying to tell longer stories this season, so wait and see is probably the best strategy, but it almost feels like we should just mentally reboot all of the characters because they are just going to start from scratch with them this season (except Kurt and Rachel. And maybe Finn). It makes it hard when you have been a hardcore fan of the previous two season and want to see the development build from the past, you know?
