Why this must be read: This is a Diefenbaker point-of-view fic centered on Dief's love of donuts and by extension his appreciation of Ray, the provider of those wondrous things. Arrow has written a funny, clever Dief-voice, a fun look inside his not-wolf way of seeing things (I recognize my own dog at several points). Even though it's short, there are really poignant mentions of Dief and Fraser's history. Dief's partial deafness is taken into account and done well. Bonus: kalakirya has recorded a very nice podfic of the story, which Arrow links to on the story post.
