thursday: het and other slash
A little late, thanks to the LJ madness these past few days...

In truth, it was pretty clear how the whole thing was going to end when he walked ragged and rainsoaked into her bar and asked for a whiskey, double, thanks babe, with a smile that turned into slightly murderous when somebody shoved a quarter into the jukebox and overrode Johnny Thunders with something twenty years and a Clapton's worth of guitar genius away from being classic.
Most people steer far clear of OFCs, and in doing so, they can miss perfect gems such as this one. It's less of a romantic fic as much as it is a heartbreaking study of two people who have no-one else. Lucy is as real as any other character in the series, and her backstory is as interesting and sad as Dean's.

Cas shows up while Dean is alone in the hotel. The war in Heaven has Cas exhausted and haggard, and Dean decides to take care of him. Set somewhere between "Like A Virgin" and "Frontierland".
While the fic itself is super-duper hot, the underlying affection that colors everything is the real treat. It's nice to have Dean and Cas in a relatively angst-free relationship, and, despite the fact that this fic is a PWP, we get a really nice feel for it.

There aren't many halo!fics out there, but this one stands out as just how amazing they can be, with lovely dialog and perfect characterizations. The slightly AU setting makes way for the wonderful plot and the nicely interwoven story behind Cas' halo.
