Saturday: Blast From the Past

Hi everyone: some stories today for your reading pleasure! Long, short, slash, gen, humor and history: something for all of you. Have a great weekend!

Sam/Dean

Pirouetting in the Netherworld
atimi Evil!Dean/Demon!Sam | R | crack.
In Hell, Sam is doing a ritual. Dean is watching and laughing.
Awesomely hilarious, brilliantly snarky, and some of the best crack I have read in months. Laugh-out-loud-in-public funny.

Threw Away the Sun
ladyjanelly Sam/Dean | NC-17 | AU | violence | (cut links to tag).
Six months after John Winchester goes missing on a hunt, Dean goes to Palo Alto to find a psychic.
Vivid, intense and original. Leaves you feeling raw and wanting, but also hopeful.

Highway Survivalists' Roadmap: 15;47;180;237;301
drvsilla Sam/Dean | Adult.
Sam and Dean, on the road.
This is intoxicatingly poetic: a loving, vivid, sensory portrait of caught fragments of time. The description of surroundings - nature, pursuers, the car - serves only to highlight an intense and beautiful relationship that is also a force of nature.

Gen

Dead Soldiers: An Oral History of the End Times
fryadvocate Gen | R | Religion, miracles, angels, demons, and the end times.
Although much has been written about the sociological and theological importance of the "End Times War", there has been much less written about the individuals directly involved. Using interviews with primary sources, this paper seeks to examine how Dean and Sam Winchester, two criminals with a history of violence and petty theft, became commonly known as a prophet of the Lord and the Anti-Christ.
This is, quite simply, brilliant. The apocalypse is seen through a number of pairs of eyes, and the Winchesters' tale told by a series of (mixedly reliable) narrators. Some of these characters are recognizable (Ellen, Jo, Bobby) and others are miraculously clear and well-characterized OCs. It's absolutely fascinating and very cunningly realised - and Sam and Dean shine through just wonderfully. Beyond worthwhile into the realm of essential reading. Come on - it's Saturday. What are weekends for?
