Last night I stayed up until 3 am watching "
1000 Pieces of Gold". I haven't seen that movie since we watched in in middle school. Which I'm surprised but not upset with the fact that we saw that movie in class (there's a hellalot of rape in it). This was during the early 90's when there was like this revisit of early America and it's diplomatic mistakes such as Manifest Destiny; shows like" Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman" were all the rage and so, rape and realism were accepted into the school curriculum along with a dose of white people guilt.
The film is about a Chines girl who gets sold into prostitution and brought to 1880 California during the gold rush. Anyway
Chris Cooper is in it! Like this guy I totally associate with the creepy/complex/gay/homophobic guy from "
American Beauty". In this movie he's kind and progressive and kind of hot, but maybe that's only against the redneck ethnocentric bastards around him. His character is still kind of creepy, he's sort of stalking this girl but in an unrequited love, Niles from Fraser, protective kind of a way. But then there's suspenders, which counteract any creepy tendencies. Anyway, the point is, the movie was better than I remembered, hence keeping me awake until 3am. ~Crabout
