A simple truth, and yet…
My friend,
I know you better than I know myself:
How you smell, how you feel,
I know your taste, your touch…
Would it surprise you to know
Finally, truthfully, the way I really feel?
You are a part of my completion,
The hidden strength I lean into.
Could I tell you?
Should I tell you?
Would love shine from your eyes?
Or would you turn away,
Leaving me bereft?
Oh, yes, my friend…
I know your lips, but not your heart.
And so, my friend… I’ll say no more.
Instead, I’ll smile and sit beside you,
And wonder if you know.
