While having some suspicion on the internet IS a healthy thing, I think writing anything and everything off as a hoax or attention-whoring is a mistake.

So far, you've done several things a scammer/attention-whore would likely NOT do:

1. Giving out detailed information, which is easily verified by something as simple as googling.

2. Requesting that newspapers and authorities be contacted on your behalf -- bringing the authorities in is generally NOT what someone doing something purely for attention would do unless they're TRULY sick.

3. As someone else pointed out, you vanish for long periods of time. Someone looking for attention isn't going to disappear for days or weeks on end, when they're clearly going to get more attention by constantly posting.

4. You've pretty much vanished from fandom. This is literally the only things I see you post, and the only engagement you do anymore.

5. You haven't asked for ANYTHING, with the exception of advice and information.

Hence, it seems very unlikely that you are making this up/doing it for attention. It just doesn't fit the standard behaviors and patterns you see from Munchausen (by Internet) syndrome or other such disorders.

God I'm so looking forward to sinking into fandom, but right now I couldn't care less about it.

Just take care of you and your family. Fandom will still be there when things are settled. ♥
