Ulterior Motive

In order to understand my biological mother better I just got in a copy of The Girls Who Went Away:  The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children For Adoption in the Decades Before Roe v.Wade.  My 14yo daughter immediately asked to read it.

I can't imagine a better prophylactic.

With the best will in the world, it would probably serve as a good soporific for her too! How nice that she's trying to get involved, and understand the issues though. I was talking to my fourteen year old niece at the weekend. It's easy to forget how very grown up a 'child' of that age can be.

She wanted to know, "Why did they treat these girls (her age) like they had no rights?"

"Because back then they didn't have any rights."

That led to a lively discussion.

She's a bright kid, clearly. It's great that you have these discussions.
