MA Warped Tour (kind of long, kind of jumbled description)

Jul 27, 2008 01:25

This is quite late, but I've finally found some time between house-sitting, dog-walking, and selling seafood to describe my day at Warped Tour. It got off to nightmarish start, but in the end, it was a wonderful and exciting experience.

My sister and I went together and we got to the venue nice and early to wait in line. However, soon after the gates had opened, and my sister and I anxiously handed over our tickets to be scanned, they were rejected! Somehow Ticketmaster sold us parking tickets rather than show tickets, which is ridiculous and makes no sense because who would pay $80 just to park a car? We tried to explain our situation at the box office, but they told us that the show was sold out, and that we should try calling Ticketmaster for a refund. Needless to say, we were both extremely upset, because we had really been looking forward to this. I felt defeated, and suggested to my sister that we should just go, but she was determined to get us in. So after walking around the venue a bit, she found another entrance that she casually walked into. I was so nervous that we would get caught, and I must have looked so uncomfortable and awkward walking in, but luckily we were successful. That was such a relief, my sister gave me the hugest hug<3

As for the performances, my favorite was easily Against Me! There was so much energy and excitement in the crowd, and everyone was truly enjoying the music. I also had a great time seeing Say Anything...and The AKAs, who played on a much smaller stage to a very small group of listeners. It was very intimate, and full of passion. I got a chance to talk to the members of The AKAs a while after their performance, and they were so cool and down to earth. They were outside the whole time, selling their merch and walking around, so I got to talk to them about their new record a bit. I had really been looking forward to seeing 3OH!3 and that was such a fun show. Those guys are so funny, and got the audience really excited.

Around 4, everything got extremely chaotic. It started to thunder and lightning, and it was just pouring rain. Most of the acts were put on hold, as everyone ran through the rain, in search of some sort of shelter. People were huddled together beneath tables and trucks, while a few people got the idea to slide down the muddy surface of this lawn-covered hill behind one stage. Pretty soon, tons of us were racing on our backs and stomachs through the mud. It was crazy! There was a fence at the bottom of the hill, and a bunch of kids, unable to stop sliding, would crash right into the metal fence. (One boy got both feet stuck beneath the metal, which we had to bend so that he could squeeze his feet out) I guess the security caught on to the potential danger and formed a line towards the top of the hill, in hopes of preventing anyone else from sliding down, but everyone simply ignored their attempts, quickly mudsliding right past them-it was hilarious XD

The storm quickly blew through though, and the show was back on track. I had such a marvelous time, and I'm so glad that everyone kept such positive attitudes during the storm, making it into something fun, rather than letting it ruin the day. I'm already looking forward to next year's=D
