Freaksgiving this year went off with its usual number of hitches - house not fully clean when the guests arrived, unwanted hide-and-seek with the cat, not enough people appreciating the magic of the rutabaga, and SOMEONE giving me a terrible cold that manifested the following day - but when all was said and done, it was a wonderful day. We got to see many folks we hadn't seen in quite some time, and the turkey came out as delicious as always -- this year we only had one turkey, so instead of naming it Hanzel or Gretel, it was abundantly clear that this year, the kids won and the witch lost. I wish I'd remembered to get a picture of it, but it will live on in our hearts and on our thighs.
Highlights:
- Digitalsidhe turned the garage into his own cocktail bar for the afternoon! Many Ramos fizzes were had by all.
- feyandstrange brought the gravy with her when she arrived. It was delicious and absolutely hassle-free!
- roadknight and feorlen arrived with a bottle of wine from Feorlen's family in Italy. We opened it with the turkey, and it was delicious.
- unseelie and his tribe arrived with deviled eggs, crackers and cheese, and nuts to keep everyone full until the turkey was done, and with the help of another guest turned the kitchen into a Moscato-tasting party.
The presence of everyone named and unnamed made the day a true delight. Thankful as always for our wonderful extended family out here on the west coast. Happy Holidays, everyone!
