http://www.planetout.com/news/article.html?2008/02/04/3 I'm pretty torn between Hillary and Obama.
this article makes me think that maybe if the LGBT folks are behind Obama, maybe I should be too. Clinton wants to repeal the part of DOMA that forbids federal recognition of same sex marriage, but leave in the Full Faith and Credit exception that permits states to not recognize marriages validly executed in other states. That is EXACTLY what is wrong with DOMA. A half assed repeal isn't going to make anyone happy. That half-assed-ness is what got us into don't ask, don't tell.
On the other hand,
this piece of propaganda really turns me off. It highlights the religious reverie that is so present in Obama's rhetoric. People get all starry eyed because he is saying things that we want to hear, in a voice that we want to hear it.
Slate.com's political gabfest raised an interesting issue. Obama seems to do extraordinarily well with rallies and huge events where he gets to use his preacher voice (my characterization). However, Obama's press conferences and interviews don't impress people nearly as much. Is this all some sort of
fascistic prelude of what's to come? Even if he has managed to unite the left under one banner, isn't that crowd just a little frightening?
