Saturday update and the accident

Hi friends,

Definetely some updates, the most recent happened today, I had a car accident, I'm ok, but my car...not so much. More about this below. Let's start with...

FAMILY. All seem to be doing well, Shannan came home from college for the holiday break, I can't wait to see her, I know she'll be woriking a lot over the next week but I'm still hopeful to see her before she leaves. I don't remember if I mentioned, but Amy is back in college, she's taking online classes through Empire State to get her BS degree in Marketing, I'm really proud of my little sister. Joe K. is preparing himself for his upcoming surgery in December, he's having his hip replaced (its never been quite the same after his accident more than 20 years ago), the doctor said that he'll be out of work for about six months, flat on his back for at least 6-8 weeks before he can begin rehabilitation, but they are very, very optimistic that things will go well. Kathy has not been feeling very well lately, her disease (the thing in her spine and brain) comes and goes, she has good weeks and bad weeks and unfortunately right now is a bad time but she'll be back in her groove very soon. Mom is doing well, her therapy is ok but she's a little discouraged that she's not back to full strength yet, we need to keep reminding her that its going to take time. Not much else with family except:

WINETOUR. Last weekend Karen, Kathy, Amy, Joe K., Robert and I went on a wine tour of Seneca Lake, I was designated driver so I did not drink (other than a drop on the tongue occassionally). We went to 9 wineries in about 6 hours, kept up a good pace, we had the opportunity to visit several new wineries, Hector Wine Company (which had been open only 3 weeks) and J.R. Dills (which had been open 4 months). Of all the places we stopped, my favorites were Atwater (for their mulled wine) and J.R. Dills (we were served by the owner, a very cool young gentleman). The tours were fun and we had a good time until we were heading back home and that's unfortunately when Robert and one of my sisters decided to verbally come after me, it was really difficult and I'm still not in a good enough place to talk about it, I did not provoke it at all, in fact I kept silent while I was driving because it was dusk and I wanted to concentrate on the road, but they still came after me for about 15 minutes. When we finally got back to Karen's house for dinner, I was pretty much the quiet one in the corner, didn't really talk to anyone, and when I drove Robert home and dropped him off, I didn't say much then either. I know that everyone in the car was pretty wasted and I know because they are family and my oldest friend that I have to forgive them for what happened, but it still really, really hurt.

WORK. It's nuts right now, everyone is working extra hours, my recruitment has gone through the roof and although I've been fortunate to fill several position, it seems as though more and more get added, next week I have 2 days of interviews, pretty straight forward, I was hoping that the three days before our holiday break would be a little quieter but no such luck. Oh, well, that's life.

As for me, well, the accident certainly has become my highpoint this past week. This morning (Saturday) I went to get the oil changed in my car, after which I drove just down the road to get groceries, and then I started to drive back home. About a mile from my place, in a 45 MPH zone, the hood of my car flew backwards and shattered my windshield. Luckily I was not on a curve at the time (it was just before the curve) and there was no one behind me so I was able to stop the car quickly and then slowly manueaver over to the side of the road before calling AAA. The tow truck came, took me home (because I was literally just minutes away) and then took the vehicle to a body shop (a AAA certified one). While waiting for the tow, I called Bob D. to tell him that I would not be going to the movies on Sunday (he and Phil and I were going to see "Harry Potter), and then I called the place where I had my oil changed to tell them of the accident because I know it was their fault, they didn't latch down the hood of the car. Then I called my insurance company, they are sending out someone on Monday to access the damage. To my untrained eye, what I see is the hood, the window, and both side panels on the front of the car, no structural damage that was visable to the naked eye but I could be wrong I guess. Anyway, I'm hoping the repairs can be done quickly and that it won't be totalled (the lady on the phone said it was a possibility depending on the amount of damage). Personally I think it looks a lot worse than it is but we'll have to wait and see. I'll be taking the bus to work on Monday, that's for sure. I'll also have to cancel my next hospital test, that was supposed to be on Tuesday but I know I won't be able to make it, may have to cancel the next test as well, depending on my transportation situation, I know my Dr. won't be happy but such is life.

So, that's about it. Hoping for the best for my car, "Casper", but we'll have to wait and see. Sunday (tomorrow) I'm staying home, cleaning the apartment, and doing laundry. If I can find a way to church, I'll go but not sure about that at the moment. Such is life.

I wish you each joy and love, happiness and health, and peace. Be well and safe, take care. And Happy Thanksgiving.
