The Status of Things

Aug 06, 2008 11:20

As I mentioned, July seemed to fly by -- I'm not quite sure where it went.

A's son J got home yesterday from Singapore. We decided to have breakfast-supper and enjoyed pancakes and bacon with OJ in the dining room. We moved the pub-height table and chairs from the breakfast nook to the formal dining room and it looks nice. We moved the cabinet that we got from the antique shop in The Heights from the niche in the b'fast area to the niche in the living room which makes it handy to the dining room since that's where we keep the good china, silver and odds and ends.

The breakfast nook now has an end table and a couple of comfy ottomans. Probably not the long term solution but it feels bigger in there.

A and Munchkin-lette organised J's room over the weekend. Munchkin and I cleaned out J's car and gave it a good vacuuming and scrubbing inside. It looks much nicer. J professed gratitude yesterday.

We took the kids to see "Mama Mia" at the Angelika Saturday afternoon. I enjoyed it. It was fluff but it wasn't meant to be more than fluff so I thought it good fun. The final two songs were hi-larious.

We had Mike (Houston_Catholic) and Peetah (edensong over for dinner and a film Sunday night. We had D-I-Y taco salad and tres leches cake and watched "All About Eve", a film I'd never seen before. I really enjoyed it -- all kinds of quotable quotes in that one.

Last night, "Now, Voyager" was on TCM so A and I caught the latter part of it and enjoyed it all over again. It's apparently Bette Davis week in the A/cqg household. I refuse to watch "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" or "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" though. Scary / mysteries just aren't my thing.

TS Edouard was kind of a dud in my neighbourhood. Lots's of drizzle and wussy wind. I do note that the french door to the balconey wasn't sticking this morning so the moisture in the soil is apparently replenished as the foundation seems to bend out of shape (what's the word for that?) a bit when the ground dries out, causing the door to stick. Nothing major -- just an idiosyncracy of the house. On the upside, the temps were brought down into the high 70'sF. Coffee this morning on the balcony was enjoyable.

Robbie was neutered on Monday and was stumbling around the house drunkenly (and with lots of stiffness/soreness) Monday night. He even growled at A at one point -- ironic as I was the person who took him to the vet. He's getting pain killers and antibiotics twice a day. He was pretty much to his normal, spunky self yesterday afternoon and this morning. He tears around and shakes his kong (that's a toy -- getcher mind out of the gutter) vigorously like he normally does. We're hoping that he'll calm down a bit now.
