The days fly by in a blur

Jun 09, 2008 08:13

What with rehearsals and all, the days are flying by -- work all day, rush home, commute and practice, return home, get some shut eye and do it all over again.

On the upside, work is interesting and I'm enjoying the rehearsals.

Summer school holidays commenced this past weekend. We got munchkin for the month and munchkinlette graced us with her presence for the weekend. A's oldest came to Houston from Abilene for the weekend with a friend of his. They stayed at our house. There was drama about some girl playing them off against each other. I didn't know straight boys did this kind of drama. There were tears, shouting, pounding of feet on the stairs and slamming doors. Good grief. I went to bed.

Sunday we did a nice pancake, sausage and bacon breakfast. Some awkwardness between the boys. But it didn't ruin things. I spent the day reading "The Road Less Traveled" and doing some weeding. A made a chocolate fudge cake. Oldest and friend headed off back to Abilene. I offloaded an HP 710C printer that was sitting around in my office, useless.

Later we went over to edensong's for a pork loin roast, roasted tatties and a green bean with mushrooms thing that was fairly enjoyable (I'm not into green bean cassarole but A and the kids are). I tried it and found it not objectionable -- not because of edensong's cooking, mind you (it's always fab) -- it's just the green beans thing. I like 'em find by themselves or french cut with bacon and slivered almonds. What can I say -- I'm from Iowa and a basic meat and potatoes kind of guy.

We started watching some 1957 era sci-fi flick about a monster (which looked like a cross between the swamp thing and godzilla) imported from Venus then switched to "Drop Dead Gorgeous". I'd seen bits and pieces but this was the first time on a complete run through. It was a hilarious film (love Allison Janney, Ellen Barkin and Kirsten Dunst; I tolerate Kirstie Allie but her Minnesota accent was amusing). It was very nice to watch this on the new 52" flat screen with theatre sound. Verry enjoyable.

Munchkin got packed off to day camp at the downtown YMCA this morning. I'll be transporting him to and from for the next three weeks. Should be fun commuting with him. He's a great kid and I'm glad to have him in my life.
