Enchanted Highway

Aug 21, 2007 23:40

Today, all plans went by the wayside as we took a drive through North Dakota, along the Enchanted Highway. What's enchanted about it, you might ask. I always think of New Mexico as the Land of Enchantment. At first, as we drove through the rolling farmland, Paul said it was enchanted to make you fall asleep while driving down the highway. =) But no, that wasn't it!

An artist living in Regent, North Dakota, began putting up large metal sculptures a few years back. His plan is to have one every 3 miles from the Gladstone exit on I-94, south to Regent, 26 miles away. Here are 3 we saw today. I'll post more tomorrow, along with the wonderful contents of my latest detritus bag from Vikki Clayton.

This one is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest sculpture of its type. This is the one on the north side of I-94 at the exit for Gladstone.
